Camels on sand dunes

Neelpur travel guide: the blue city in three speeds

In this story

Neelpur is a walled desert town of blue-washed houses and a fort that glows at dusk. Most visitors do it in a day; it is better in three.

Best time to go

October to February, when days are warm and nights are cool. Avoid May and June.

How to get there

The overnight train from Riverbend takes 9 hours (sleeper INR 620, demo). The airport is 14 km from the old town.

Do not miss

  • Sunrise from the fort's east gate.
  • The 90-year-old kachori shop near the clock tower.
  • A lane walk through the dyers' quarter.

Frequently asked questions

Is Neelpur safe for solo women travellers?

Yes. The old town is busy until 10 pm; use a registered auto at night.

How much money for three days?

Plan INR 2,500 to 6,000 a day, depending on where you stay.

This is a demo story: every name, place, organisation and figure in it is fictional.
